Venetian Blinds For Light and View Control

And Air Circulation Too!

Venetian blinds are a classic because more than any other window treatment they can be tilted to alter the out side view, closed for total privacy, or raised to completely clear the window. They are made from tiny micro mini sizes to 2 1/2 inch wide slats. The wooden options can be painted, stained and textured, but for damp or high humidity conditions consider vinyl or composite slats. Venetian blinds with 2″ wide slats were traditionally strung with cloth tapes but for a more contemporary look try the cord ladders instead.
Points to ponder when shopping for Venetian blinds:
1 The quality differences are usually found in the strength of the head rail, the quality of the locking mechanism, and the uniformity of the finish and shape of the slats.
2. Consider the stacking height. The wider the slat, the fewer slats are needed to cover the opening, so when raised the slats (and cords) take up less space.
3. Fewer slats translate into a less expensive product, and their bulk is less so they don’t block as much of the view. However, they don’t offer the same degree of light control and insulation.
4. Make sure you have enough extension to clear the woodwork on an outside mount, and that the slats are narrow enough to clear your door hardware, or the window crank on a casement window.
5. For child and pet safety consider continuous loop controls.
6. Venetian blinds are dust catchers!
